Breakfast— scrambled eggs – 1 slice bacon – shredded wheat(??) – coffee.

Then to Bunratty— photos of Durty Nelly’s from 2 angles, 1 of crow in alcove in wall – he politely waited until I dragged out Nikon with long zoom lens, then flew away the second after I snapped the picture . (Unusually good luck for me).

Checked out Pitch and Putt near Fibber McGee’s – greens were like my lawn at home (too long for putting).

Geo. & I got pounds for Travelers cheques to pay for purchases in Duty Free shop by Helen & Pat.

Heard that an employee of the money-change area is Ann O’Grady. Hope to see her (not coming in till later) before leaving for airport in a.m. (Didn’t get to see her. Everyone says this is O’Grady country).

At Knappogue, 5:45 p.m. Before going in, took more photos of black sheep. Sunlight conditions made for interesting lights & shadows (in contrast with photos taken yesterday). One with sheep grazing in foreground & wrought-iron fence & castle walls in background.

Ready for banquet. Best chicken I have ever tasted, excellent oak-smoked Irish salmon, very good vegetable soup. Mead to start, then plenty of good white wine.

Harpist & violinist played lovely music. Our waitress was very attractive blonde girl who later sang song (by Thomas Moore) commemorating Robert Emmet. It had special meaning for me since I was named for him.

Entertainment by young Irish men & women was first class . Many flash shots of them in their colorful costumes. Also several of the musicians, showing violin & harp (should be very good photos). [These photos did not turn out well. I've included the only passable one.]

Left banquet at 9 p.m., mentioning to blonde girl how much I enjoyed her performance and why. Her response, “God bless you.”

Return to B&B in semi-daylight with faithful navigator, George, calling turns expertly and guiding us safely home.

Thanks be to God, who must be looking after us! One more short trip to Shannon in a.m. & we are in His hands for trip across ocean to N.Y. & from there to Seattle.

We may appreciate Seattle & Everett more after surviving Irish roads & drivers and the food & plumbing which were inadequate by U.S. standards.

With very few exceptions, we have been treated courteously & well by the wonderful Irish people. These we will remember with gratitude, and the exceptions we’ll try to forget.
