Fremantle, Western Australia, Australia
.... (Back dated. Our pictures after leaving Fremantle, Australia)
.
Perth / Fremantle: 1/8/2016. Our last day in Perth. Got up late since our cruise boarding was not scheduled until 1:00 PM. Once again, we are on the road. The subway is only three blocks from our hotel, so we walked there with our luggage. Bought our subway tickets for $4.50 Australian Dollars each and hopped on the train. It took all of 30 minutes to travel south to Fremantle where we boarded the Sun Princess at pier 5.

As usual, the lines to board the ship were long. It took us about two hours of sitting in the pier lobby before our number was called. But all went like clockwork after that except for Nelly's scissors. She never leaves home without her trusted scissors. This time, TSA security was not kind to her. When asked to produce the culprit as seen on the x-ray machine, she said she had only one pair of scissors. Of course they disagreed. They saw more than one on the machine. So Nelly went digging into her suitcase. Meanwhile I just stood by and looked on with a smirk, because I knew that in my suitcase, which had already been checked, had one pair of small scissors and two bottles of wine! Well, Nelly found not one, but three pair of scissors! All I heard her repeat to the TSA agent was: "Oh, there are those other pair I thought I had lost". The TSA agent was not too forgiving. “Since you lied to us,” said the TSA agent, “we will have to confiscate them”. The TSA agent took the scissors and said in no uncertain words, that she could recover them once the trip would be over. Two days later, out at sea, Nelly called the Sun Princess front desk because she had not gotten a receipt for her scissors. Her beloved scissors were delivered to our cabin with no further ado.

Our cabin is C742. It is a balcony type cabin and is located on the 9th floor, better known as the Caribe level. We are way back on the port side of the ship. In fact we are the last balcony cabin in the back. Only two other cabins are behind us. They are two mini-suites. They are four times larger than our small, 179 square foot balcony.

The next order of business was unpacking. Nelly is good at that. I just sit back and watch her do her thing. In the middle of unpacking I became hungry just watching Nelly. So off we went to the 14th floor, the Lido, for Lunch.   The variety of food on these ships always amazes me. There are so many choices. Almost like an endless table of salads, entries, desserts and drinks. Our secret to keep in shape is to climb the stairs instead of taking the elevator. After that, an announcement came over the PA system. It was time to go for the customary pre-sailing drill. With our life jackets in tow we proceeded to the designated location: The Vista, on the 7th floor. The drill took about 30 minutes and soon we were back in our cabin.

Of course we also had to check out the ship. This is our first time on the Sun Princess. Not the biggest, but about half the size of the Norwegian Epic, which we sailed to Europe two years ago. The Sun Princess carries 1,935 paying passengers and 846 crew members.

The entertainment has been good, so far. We have gone to daily lectures about the history of Australia. Did you know that many Australians count their fore fathers as criminals? Yes, England used to ship its criminals to Australia in the 1800’s. The worst criminals were shipped to Tasmania, just south of Australia. A minor offense, like stealing an apple, could earn you a free trip to Australia. Sometimes, it would take more than 9 months to a year to cross from London to Australia. And we thought it took us forever to fly, 20 hours, to Perth, Australia.

Our next port after Singapore is Phuket, Thailand. We will send you an update from Phuket about our Singapore visit. In the meanwhile, we have taken a few pictures of our exodus from Perth/Fremantle and the ship up until Jan 13, 2016. Here they are.

Dear Nelly and Jim, your slowboat, the Sunny Princess, finally reached Singapore, which is a great place and melting-pot of cultures, religions, human races and Big Money, based on "Law and Order". I "googled" the place last night and saw hundreds of tremendous pictures, and, too, I got a great deal of very interesting Information. Thanks for the report of Fremantle! Evidently Nelly made the Security-Officers a Little bit nervous. The Happy End later took place, and lucky Nelly got back her most important tools for keeping up with beauty. Have a pleasant time and voyage to Phuket! Greetings from Schaffhausen, cousin Ernst near the famous Rhinefalls

What a shame you did not find more treasures in your case, Nelly. I did not take tweezers in my port and then the check-in girl told me they would have been okay. Keep enjoying those divine looking desserts! Xx
