Melbourne, Friday, Feb. 26. 2016 Before we hit the trails again, we bought a 2 day ticket so we could travel with the trams outside the City Center. Our main plan was to see the Royal Botanical Gardens which are in the South East of the city. What a beautiful place! We spent hours walking and taking pictures of the Gardens. We also walked the grounds of the Shrine of Remembrance and climbed the stairs to the outlook. Wow, what a view! The whole city skyline was right in front of us. We noticed, that the beach wasn't too far off and decided to take a tram to St. Kilda Beach. Of course I had to get my feet wet in the Port Phillip Bay, which was a chilling experience and was of short endurance. We rather walked on the boardwalk and since a cold wind blew in from the ocean we decided to find a place for lunch inland. Again we bumped into another popular area to eat, Acland Street, known for all the European bakeries and of course more restaurants. That was a busy place but we found a free table on the sidewalk café and enjoyed a delicious meal, Tasmania Salmon with all the trimmings, yum . We topped it off with a scrumptious dessert from one of the bakeries. By then it was time to get back to the hotel for some R & R. Came 7 pm we felt like taking a little evening stroll and ended up at the Southern Cross Station, a train, tram and subway station which equals to a melting pot of people coming and going. That was our whooping it up night life experience so far, ha, ha, ha. Can’t wait until Sat. night, let’s see what surprise it brings.

Let’s go to the Zoo today!!! Yes, that’s exactly what we did. We took a tram up North and were pleasantly surprised how great and big the Zoo is. The animals are in an exact habitat like they would be if free in their environment. It was one big jungle. We walked for miles and enjoyed every minute of it. We needed to get a load off and opted for a late lunch. All fueled up again we headed for the popular Queen Victoria Market. What a place that is . You can buy anything your heart desires in this humongous market. It was great fun for me but Jim looked like he would rather be in another place. So we took the tram back to the hotel and rested for a while. But by 8pm we were at it again hopping on a tram to the West side of the city. Our goal was to experience the nightlife at the Docklands Waterfront with its famous brightly colored lighted up Observation Wheel, a.k.a. Ferris Wheel. There are restaurants, bars and shops all along the board walk. Wow, what a busy place. It seems the whole city decided to be there. Also they had a fancy affair going on called "The White Dinner". It’s an annual happening of about 2000 participants. (See pictures.) Also the Wheel was spectacular and everyone had a great time, including us. We had our light dinner such as in 2 huge scoops of delicious dairy free ice cream in a sugar cone. Yes, we splurged.  “What flavors?” you might ask, “blueberry/chocolate. Then we strolled along the pier and admired all the fancy yachts. So much for our daring night out.

Dear Nelly and Jim, your second report from Melbourne sounds great, and all the pics (city, skyline, market,, buildings, parks, zoo and the outstanding botanic scene) are most beautiful and informative. Thanks again for your blog! So your pics and comments let us take part of your knowledge. We never end with learning during our whole life. Secondly you are top reporters, and so it makes much pleasure to read your stories. The whole trip (Australia, Indian Subcontinent, Africa and back to the Aussies and their cangaroos) is now a part of your treasure with a big many of unique souvenirs that never can be stolen! - And now get healed completely of your jet lag and get accustomed to your normal and daily life in Las Cruses!
Cheers, your Swiss cousin Ernst in Schaffhausen near the famous Rhinefalls
