I don’t know how people only come to Sintra for a day. I mean, you could, but then you’d have to really pick and choose what to do. Today (Tuesday), I crossed 4 things off my list- the Pena Palace, Castle of the Moors, Piriquita Cafe, and the National Palace.
I got an early start at 9 am and took the 434 bus up to the palace, where there was already a line. I’m so glad that I went there early, because just to get in the palace itself had a huge line, hundreds of people, when I left. The grounds were stunning. The Castle of the Moors was a five minute walk away, Castle ruins, and pretty awesome to see. Then I took the bus back to the town center, grabbed a bite to eat at the cafe (dating to 1862), then visited the National Palace.
The NP did not have any lines and was not crowded at all, and it was just as beautiful. And, we could take photos inside. I had to take a rest after this, then did a little shopping, then had dinner at Incomum, which was very good. At dinner, I noticed a man eating his olives with a fork and knife, carefully removing the pit, which was impressive. The people in the shops were very friendly.
I liked Sintra a lot. I walked around after dinner, and it was quiet. So, I’m glad I stayed two nights and really got to enjoy it.
