California Christmas

Long Beach, California, United States
Merry Christmas!

The flight from Milwaukee to LAX yesterday was very full, but it went very smoothly . The weather in Long Beach was beautiful - sunny and about 65. The Californians seemed pleased with this as well, after all the rain they just had!

My aunt Sandy picked me up from the airport and took me back to her house, where my cousin, Lissy, was busy preparing a "bacon-themed" Christmas Eve dinner. It has been a tradition with them to prepare a big dinner with neighbors and friends for many years, so I was glad to be a part of it. The food was absolutely amazing!! Kudos to Lissy (and help from Sandy!). :)

Before dinner I took a long walk to stretch my legs a bit, and took some photos of the beach and of Christmas decor. I couldn't believe that I was walking outside on Dec. 24 with pants, tennies and a short-sleeved shirt. Crazy! But the sunshine was nice.

This morning we went to church for Christmas mass, and now I'm updating the blog. We will have brunch this morning (although I'm still very full from last night!) and visit the neighbors. I talked to my mom for a bit this morning. Of course, she was busy preparing food for the hoard of my siblings and families about to descend on them.

I need to do a little laundry and repack my suitcase. We will probably head to the airport around 5 pm for my flight. I hope the airport isn't too nut-so. I really can't believe this day is here! I booked my flight back in June, but I knew it would approach quickly.

I hope all of you have a wonderful Christmas with your families and friends! The next time I write, I will be in the land "Down Under."

Thank you for taking the time to post these blogs. It sounds like you're having a great time. It looks like I'm missing out on the joys of travel so at the present time I'll have to live vicariously through you. :) What an eclectic assortment of foods you've been fortunate enough to consume!! They look really good!! I noticed one of the pictures you took of what appears to be a beach had some volleyball courts on it. So how did you fare in the pickup games you played with the strangers on the beach?? I did the round robin thing with my immediate family...parents first, then my brother, me, and finally my sister's to wrap things up. My Christmas gifts were mostly electronic items (16 gb Sony Walkman MP3 player - I've been wanting one for a while now), some nice Kliptsch earbuds, portable Imax speakers for my netbook and a few other smaller items. What did you get?? Anything fun??
