Tired in Auckland

Auckland, Auckland, New Zealand
Kia Ora! ("Hello" in Maori)

This morning I woke up completely wiped out . My plan was to get up early and go for a long walk, but I couldn't bring myself to do it. I fell back asleep and wanted to keep sleeping. This is the first time I've really felt "spent."  It's probably not helping that there is not AC in my hotel room. It's not bad when there's a breeze coming in, but that is just not happening. So, when I am here, I walk around in the bare essentials, and don't really care if my neighbors in the next building are getting a show.

When I did get up and going, I did the hop-on, hop-off bus thing for awhile. I visited Parnell Village and the Parnell Gardens, and they were pretty cool. I also saw a protest downtown regarding Coptic Christians getting bombed on NYE in Egypt. I talked to the guy handing out pamphlets about it, and it sounds like it was a country-wide protest. It was very calm and peaceful. January 7 is considered Christmas on the Coptic calendar, so that is why the protests took place today.  Here is an article on it.

Auckland is a beautiful city, and considered the "City of Sails ."  Boats, water, islands and harbours are everywhere. It's also been named one of the best places to live on the planet.

I also stopped at the Auckland Central Library. This is a beautiful building! Unfortunately, I need to be living here for six months to get a library card. I really just want one as a souvenir, and I tried telling the librarian that, but she didn't budge. Ugh!

After having lunch at some Chinese place, I did some shopping, bought my bus ticket for tomorrow and took a nap. Yes, I'm in Auckland, and I took a nap. It was just needed.

Tonight I tried some Indian cuisine at Raviz, and it was excellent! Service was pretty slow and not very good, as my Indian salad arrived AFTER my entree (lamb Madras), but the food was divine nonetheless. It was also a great night to walk back to my room - breezy and balmy.

Tomorrow I'm going to do some much-needed laundry at the hotel, check out, head to the city market and then take the bus to the west coast, where I will spend the next 5 days with the "Scott" family. They sound very nice, and the scenery looks fantastic. I talked to my mom and dad this afternoon, and they said it's cold in Wisconsin. Dad said I should "soak up" this warm weather.

Haera Ra! (Good bye)

PS. I'd like to give a special shout out to "Beans," who is probably my youngest (and most avid) blog reader. :)
