Another Island...Another Opportunity

My colleague/friend, Jen, rang me earlier in the summer that one of her doctoral studies papers was accepted to a conference in Ireland.
"You should come with me," she said. "I'd rather not go alone."
Gosh, I only thought of a million reasons I shouldn't go. Money, time, just got back from a trip from Iceland....but I could also think of a few reasons why I should. Great opportunity, ok timing, a friend is going, I could split some expenses instead of paying for everything solo for a change....
I looked more into the actual conference she was attending, the 4th Annual International Symposium on Information Management in a Changing World, and thought it might be a good fit work-wise for me, too. I got the go ahead to attend the conference, so if I could find decent airfare I could crash with her and do some fun stuff. Any other expenses we would split.

I watched and studied the fares like a hawk. Next thing I know, I'm going to Ireland!

The symposium takes places in Limerick. We will arrive a few days early and stay a few days late. We also decided to book a short trip to Edinburgh before heading home. Everything is booked, and now it just needs to get here. Here, in a nutshell, is the plan:

Sept. 1: Depart O'Hare for Shannon (near Limerick)
Sept. 2: Arrive in Shannon. Rent car and drive to Kenmare
Sept. 3: Tour Ring of Kerry and head back to Limerick
Sept. 4-6: Conference in Limerick (Possible evening tour of Cliffs of Moher
Sept. 7: Depart for Edinburgh; spend two nights here
Sept. 9: Depart for Dublin; spend a night here
Sept: 10: Arrive home
This is one of the shortest planned trips for me, as I'm so used to booking international travel at least 6 months in advance. But when opportunities like this arise, you jump on them!
