The rhythm of Boxing Day seems to be the same the world over. A very lazy day for the non workers. A bit of a late morning, some concerted effort in clean up and dealing with the leftovers and then just so many choices around how to do absolutely nothing.
Anthony and Ian had a sit-in at The Aspens and watched back to back episodes of Blindspot
. Mac and Michael watched back to back premier league football (Arsenal did not return the required result) and I did back to back loads in the dishwasher and then concocted the most AMAZING turkey, pork, ham, pumpkin, potato, broccoli soup!
Served with lashings of garlic bread and toast it was the perfect pre and post game snack for the homebodies and will be recycled again tomorrow for something.
Mac and I have discovered chocolate today. Chocolate from the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Shop. Chocolate, almonds and caramel toffee in all sorts of combinations. We have a boxed collection from Michael, toffee apples and Santas from Anthony and bear paws that we bought for ourselves. Really, just too good.
There were Boxing Day sales in Whistler and Michael seemed to score a few bargains. Mac and I visited the Pandora shop and The Gap on a couple of missions (and were served by Australians) and made the daily stop to pick up supplies for the fridge - all the while marvelling at the gentle, consistent fall of snow
.
Mindy of course was at work. A busy day for her as the Christmas crowd disperses and the New Year's Eve crowds arrive. Getting the feeling that she is enjoying all the challenges of the new position and certainly enjoys the interactions with the visitors from all over the world. The conditions at Whistler are so perfect it seems that anyone with a penchant for skiing is here. Mindy was inundated in the shop and put out an emergency call to Ian to rescue the team and work the valet service for a couple of hours. Guess there are advantages and disadvantages to working in the building you live in. Even for Ian.
Mac had secured our booking for Milestones and there was no lineup or waiting here for us. I love this restaurant and it is right at Mindy and Ian's back door so makes it a perfect rendezvous point for late shift finishes for the only worker in the group. We were ushered to our window table for six by "another" Australian waitress and were certainly looked after. Only five of the six made it with Michael calling timeout because he didn't feel well. (actually think he could be suffering from Cadbury Chocolate Almond poisoning.)
Ate ourselves stupid again and enjoyed the service of "another" Australian waitress. Never seem to be far from a non local local...and we continue to say that we haven't heard a Canadian accent!
It was a leisurely feast (who would think we could face more food) interspersed with rapid fire puns and comebacks. A leisurely walk home - again accompanied by that consistent, gentle fall of snow - and that is another eight hours of daylight that has just slipped by in the twinkling of an eye.
