Finally, sunshine! We were given the all clear to hike Mount Ohlssen Bagge, the toughest hike of them all. Described as a difficult, steep, rocky climb to the summit with rewarding views inside and outside of Wilpena Pound. The hike consists of a 6.4km return journey, ascending to 941 metres above sea level. It was recommended to allow 4 hours for the hike.
Like mountain goats, we quickly clamboured up the mountain and we had to keep waiting for mum and dad. The views were spectacular as we climbed higher and higher. We passed a few hikers, but not many. When we reached the summit it was just us! Wow! We are so thankful that the rain had cleared so we could enjoy this incredible hike!
We made the entire journey in 3 hours and before we knew it, we were back on the road, with our destination being Port Augusta. Dad had read about the Quandong Cafe in Quorn and wanted to stop to sample some more Quandong treats. We called ahead as we were scheduled to arrive 5 minutes after closing time. The lovely owner said she would let us in. We had burned up a lot of energy this morning, so the Quandong slice and milkshake were quickly consumed, with Quandong pie for later!
Tonight, we were staying with our first Warm Showers host, who was also Canadian. We were looking forward to exploring Port Augusta by bicycle tomorrow.
