Unforgettable Sunsets

Yulara, Northern Territory, Australia
We felt like we were really getting into the outback as we crossed into the Northern Territory (also known as the NT).
Around the nation, there were small outbreaks of COVID-19 and cities and towns were entering into snap lockdowns.  Fortunately, we were leaving South Australia, which was now closed to anyone entering from interstate. Heading north was still OK.
We only stopped for fuel and a quick picture at the border before arriving at the Ayers Rock Resort at Yulara.  Now don't get too excited about the word resort: we were pitching our tent in the resort campground.
We had started getting excited after spotting first Mount Connor, then Uluru and Kata Tjuta as we drove closer and closer.  Dad was the only one of us who had previously visited Uluru and had even climbed Uluru almost 22 years ago.  His bragging rights were coming to an end.  We knew many people who had joined the masses on a mad dash to visit and climb Uluru before climbing was banned back in October 2019.  We saw pictures of people crammed in five abreast climbing this massive rock.   Imagine crowds of people: another lifetime ago!
After quickly setting up camp, we headed to Kata Tjuta, more commonly known as the Olgas, or as Dad liked to point out, Homer Simpson. From a distance, the Olgas can look like Homer Simpson sleeping on his back.
A small crowd had gathered at the sunset viewing platform. There was even an AAPT tour bus with drinks and hors d'oeuvres laid out for just two passengers.  Obviously, it only takes two people to make a trip viable.
Mum had researched things to do while here at the Rock. A BBQ dinner under the stars and a sunset tour around Uluru was quoted at $800. Highway robbery, but obviously there are those who are willing to pay.
Back to the sunset, it was simply stunning and we stood in awe as the sun set over these impressive boulders, observing the changing colours.  Driving back to camp, we were able to experience Uluru change colours too in the fading light. Just a magical part of Australia!
