Cruising the Gorge!

Katherine Gorge, Northern Territory, Australia
A must visit location in Katherine is Nitmiluk- Katherine Gorge.  You can hike, cruise, canoe or even fly in a helicopter over this majestic natural wonder which includes 13 gorges as well as some rock art.
Although we only cruised the first two gorges, we were impressed. Next time, we want to spend time hiking and canoeing in this wonderful place.
We spotted a couple of freshwater crocs during our cruise.  Saltwater crocs do also enter the gorge during the wet season; however, they are captured and removed. Our tour guide explained the process for capturing salties, including through the use of foreign backpackers as bait (which are incidentally quite rare right now!)
It turned out that the host of our midsummer party is a musician and he invited us to see him perform in concert in Darwin tonight.   Little did we know that the concert was quite an intimate affair in a National Trust house on the Darwin waterfront.   Lemon, lime and bitters for us, sparkling wine for the grown-ups and fine music to welcome us to Darwin.  We like Darwin already!
