Hopping the pond

Montreal, Quebec, Canada
This morning we arrived in Paris about 06:30. I hadn't slept, or at least not noticeably, on the flight, I was too cramped. However the situation improved on arrival. The usual transit rituals passed quickly. Having a high-end frequent flyer status with Delta-Air France makes these experiences much less of a hassle: shorter lines, shorter wait times. You road warriors know what a difference this can make.

I went to the Air France lounge and took a shower stall where I showered, shaved and changed clothes. What a difference that makes in one’s well-being! Then I had breakfast and worked for several hours until it was time to board the flight to Montreal. These facilities all come free with Sky Priority status.

The six-hour flight to Montreal passed without incident. I received a free upgrade to economy plus, a new class of service being implemented by several airlines. The seats are a little wider, there is a little more foot-room and the meals are a little better than in economy. It’s like business class light.

I had forgotten to put my Nexus card back in my wallet after my trips to Martinique and Saint Louis, so I could not use the expedited immigration lanes, and had to line up with the other thousand people queuing to enter Canada. Thankfully the lines moved quickly.

I picked up my suitcase and pulled my overcoat out. Then I was prepared to walk outside to the rental car area and pick up the car. It was only a short drive to the hotel I had reserved. Snow covered the ground around the buildings, but the roads were clear and dry. The temperature was around 15 degrees F or (-10 C), but the sky was clear. We may get a light dusting of snow tomorrow, but nothing that should present a problem in getting around.
