Day 17: Mt Lassen National Park

Chester, California, United States
We spent the day today at Lassen Nat'l Park.  Had a grab-n-go breakfast and then were off on the road.  It was a cold, crisp morning and we arrived in the park around 9 a.m.
We made stops along the way in the park to see the fumaroles with boiling water bubbling in a pool.  We also stopped at Emerald Lake and Helen Lake; the first a deep green (but crystal clear water) and the latter a deep blue.  We continued up the windy mountain road past 8530 feet elevation.  We hiked the very short Devastation Trail which was an area where lava and mud flowed in 1910 or so during the last eruption of Mt Lassen.  Then we had a picnic lunch of sandwiches we picked up at the Holiday supermarket in Chester (glad I joined their rewards program in Klamath Falls) and chips and a hazy IPA (or two).
Then we did a short 0,8 mile hike around Reflection Lake.  Jerry got tired so he rested near the Loomis Center while I did a mile hike around Lily Pond.  Both hikes were very nice; easy walks with nice temps and great views.
Then it was back down through the park and into Chester.  Jerry went to the hotel to nap and I took a leisure drive around Lake Amador and found some potential dinner places near the lake.  It was a nice day.
