Hot, hot, hot in San Antonio

San Antonio, Texas, United States
Wow what a full and HOT day in San Antonio. We started with breakfast at the Madhatters Tea Cafe. It was a neat local cafe with great food. After breakfast we needed to go back to our hotel to pickup a couple things for the days adventures. Problem is a parade had started while we were at breakfast and it was blocking the entrance to our hotel. I should note that this has happened to us one another time when visiting Calgary during Stampede. Back to San Antonio - the parade was the Cesar Chavez parade, and it wasn't too long so we were eventually able to get back to our hotel.

Now we set out for the day starting at Mercado market, a mix of indoor and outdoor markets featuring Mexican pottery, clothes, and trinkets . Very colorful but nothing that we needed to bring home with us. We walked through downtown towards Riverwalk. On the way we stopped and toured the historic Spanish goveners mansion (except a Spanish govener never lived in it). Regardless it was interesting to see the beautiful old home, courtyard and gardens.

Just a couple more blocks and we took stairs down to the Riverwalk. By now it is certainly 80 degrees and still getting hotter. Perfect time for a 30 minute boat tour of the San Antonio river, in the baking sun. The tour was fun (crowded) and we learned some tidbits of history about San Antonio. 1968 host of the Worlds Fair.

After the cruise we needed some cool refreshment. Jack and Grace found some frozen yogurt, Lauralee found a Starbucks, and I gotta cold bottle of water. Newly refreshed we set out for the Alamo. Fortunately it was just across the street. Still getting hotter...

The Alamo is a mission that was the site of the famous battle at the Alamo. The texans were destroyed in the battle but it inspired fellow texans to eventually win the war over Mexico.

Now it is 90 degrees and time to get off our feet. A double decker bus tour will show us some more of San Antonio and get us back to our mini van at the market. Now the market is very busy with people and street musicians.

Back at the hotel Grace and I visit the pool for a quick cooling dip before dinner.

Dinner at a Tex-Mex place...everyone is tired. Road trip starts tomorrow...
