Away we go...

Spokane, Washington, United States
It was a very rainy summer day in Spokane as we waited for our flight to depart at the airport. We made our usual pit stop at the airport Starbucks before heading to the gate. We boarded the plane in Spokane only to have to "deboard" and then "reboard" the same plane. Apparently a last minute plane swap confused the seating arrangements which required a second try. It worked as everyone had a seat and we were off with just a little delay. First flight to Minneapolis and then on to Detroit. Connections in Minneapolis were uneventful.

Once we arrived in Detroit we fetched our rental car, a white Dodge Journey, and set off for downtown Detroit . The GPS was pretty good at getting us to our hotel at the GM Renaissance Center. We wandered around in the circle of the RenCen and finally found an Italian restaurant to get some dinner. Our table looked out across the Detroit river to Windsor, Ontario, Canada. After dinner we wandered in the RenCen circles again (because we were lost) until we found our walkway back to our hotel.

The GM Renaissance Center is the corporate headquarters for GM and is comprised of 5 circular towers that are all connected at the base. The tallest tower is in the center with the other four around it. The circular towers make for some difficult navigation. On the lower ground level of the center circle there are a many GM vehicles on display.

Day one is in the books. Time to rest up for tomorrow.
