Minneapolis - last day

Minneapolis, Minnesota, United States
Our last day and everyone is ready to get home.

We started today with breakfast in St . Paul at a The Buttered Tin. We were joined by Marty and Terri Wade, friends from the dental world. We enjoyed visiting with them over a delicious breakfast. The Buttered Tin makes home made "Twin Keys" (Twinkies). They taste like sweet cornbread with whip cream filling. Quite tasty. We walked a couple blocks with the Wades to the St Paul farmers market. Lots of flowers, fruit and veggies, and food vendors. We wish we could have taken some of the fresh produce home with us.

After breakfast we drove to the capital of Minnesota and walked through St Paul's Cathedral. A beautiful Catholic Cathedral that was started in 1906. From the hill that the Cathedral is on you get a great view of St Paul and the state capital. We drove around the capital building and then headed across the Mississippi River to Minneapolis.

In Minneapolis we visited the Nicollete Mall, which is a street mall located downtown. In front of Macy's is a statue that pays tribute to the Mary Tyler Moore show . The statue features Mary tossing her hat into the air just like the start of the tv show. The show was based on a tv news station in Minneapolis. Minneapolis also has Peanuts character statues spread around town as a tribute to Charles Schultz. Charles Schultz was born and raised in the Minneapolis/St Paul area. The mall has lots of restaurants and small shops, along with a large Target and Macy's. Target is based in Minneapolis. We drove around some of the downtown neighborhoods, passing the Target Center where the Wild (hockey) and Timberwolves (basketball) play, along with hosting concerts and other events. Behind the Target Center is Target Field where the Twins play baseball. Oh, did I mention that Target is based in Minneapolis? There were many events happening around town including a Polish Festival and an Italian Festival. We headed back to our hotel for a little rest before packing for our trip home tomorrow.

After a little break at the hotel we set out on foot for dinner. We crossed the Mississippi River by bridge and found a great wood fire pizza place called Punch. The pizza was terrific. We walked back across the river and then along the river to the Mill Museum area. Izzy Ice Cream was a perfect end to our trip. The flavors were outstanding. In Kansas City there is a ice cream shop called Glacee that is one of the best we have found. Izzy is equal to Glacee. Wonderful flavors, smooth and creamy, and fresh tasting.

We walked back to our hotel and retired for the night. Tomorrow we have an early start to get to the airport for our morning flight to Spokane.

Thanks for tagging along on our "Great Lakes Adventure". Good night.
