Final Drive Day

Thursday, April 10, 2014
Boston, Massachusetts, United States
Today we finish the driving portion of our road trip. We finish in Boston with a couple days to relax and sight see.

This morning started with 21 degrees (f) at sunrise and quickly warmed up to 41 degrees (f) by 8am when we were loaded up and heading down the road . I did have to scrape the windshield before we could set off for Boston.

Breakfast was at the hotel and was again a real challenge. I appreciate the effort the hotels go to in providing a "free" breakfast but stale toast, not egg "eggs" and sugar cereal is not worth much. OK enough of my rant.

On the road we quickly crossed the Connecticut River and entered New Hampshire, our 10th state on this trip. In New Hampshire the hills continue with more pine trees mixed among the maple trees. Up and down the hills we go, round the curves with ski hills here and there. Small lakes peer through the trees, still covered in ice. Spring is coming but signs of winter are everywhere. Ice hangs heavy from the granite cliffs along the passes. We drive through Concord and Manchester finding a Starbucks hidden inside a Target store.

Next stop is Andover Massachusetts for some lunch before visiting Straumann . Straumann is a dental supply company that we do quite a bit of work with and Lauralee has taught classes for. In fact she is presenting to a group of periodontists tomorrow. We found a great mediterranean restaurant for lunch. The owner was very friendly and shared several samples with us. The hummus and pitas were delicious.

We stopped by Straumann to make sure everything is ready for tomorrows course. We enjoyed a nice tour of their auditorium and met several people in person we have previously only have known through email and phone calls.

Enough work for today, on to Boston. 30 minutes later we are in downtown Boston checking into our hotel adjacent to Boston Commons park. We checked in and relaxed for a little while before setting out to enjoy the beautiful sunny day. We walked through Boston Common towards the Back Bay & Prudential Center areas. Stopping in a few shops just browsing. Eventually we came to the Finish Line of the Boston Marathon. We stopped by Marathon Sports, right were one of the bombs went off at last years marathon. They are setting up the finish line grandstands for this years marathon which runs in about another week. News crews were on sight with live cameras to report on the anniversary of the 2013 marathon bombing.

We walked back to our hotel and enjoyed a relaxing dinner. A nice way to wind down our road trip. We have now traveled over 900 miles and been in 11 different states. Hard to believe it has not even been a full week yet.
