Lecture Day

Boston, Massachusetts, United States
Today Lauralee taught a couple of courses at a dental company that is located in Andover. We have taught surgery and practice operations courses at our office in Spokane for them and this year they asked her to speak at their US headquarters to a group of select periodontists.

Lauralee and I got up early and headed the 30 minutes to their offices . Headed out of Boston early there was no traffic. We needed to make sure all of the audio and video would work. We had a minor glitch with audio but got it resolved before the meeting began. I headed back into Boston to spend the day with the kids. Unfortunately now I was headed into Boston during rush hour. Ugh!!!

Once at the hotel, the kids and I headed towards Quincy Market. We passed the Old South Meeting Hall, Faneuil Hall and many other historic sites. We grabbed some lunch at Quincy Market and browsed a few shops before walking back to our hotel.

We retrieved our minivan and headed back out to Andover to pickup Lauralee and take a tour of the companies manufacturing facilities. The course was a great success and Lauralee was very relieved to have it behind her.

Time for dinner and we were going to Boston's North End for some Italian food and pasteries . We went to Giacomos (Jac-o-mos) which is an iconic North End restaurant. A tiny restaurant with tables tightly packed in. They take no reservations and sometimes the wait can be a couple hours to get a table. They open at 4:30 and the line often begins lining up by 4pm. When we arrived at 4:20 the line was already about 12 people. We made the first seating and were packed into a table. The server essentially serves two or three tables at one time, telling you the specials and taking multiple orders together. Ordered food comes out quickly and you move through a full meal in about 30 minutes. The foods was good, not great. The experience was interesting and worth one visit. A couple final comments on Giacomos, the take cash only and there are no substitutions to their menu.

After dinner we returned to Mikes Pastry, home to great cannolis, cream puffs, and more. We filled a box to take back to our hotel room to be sampled. Grace loved the cream puff and Lauralee and I loved the "lobster tail" - a puff pastry filled with a ricotta/whipped cream mixture.

The road trip is done, the course is done, now to just relax on our final day in Boston.
