Day 9 - Back to Denver and Flying Home

Sunday, July 20, 2014
Liberty Lake, Washington, United States
Final day. With the late night at the concert yesterday and no real rush to get to Denver we slept in and packed our suitcases for our flights home.

About 10AM we set off for a Starbucks in downtown Cheyenne . Along the way we viewed the downtown all spruced up for the Frontier Days visitors. We passed by the State capital as well. Starbucks was packed with tourists and locals. You know Cheyenne is a real cowboy town when there is horse poop in the Starbucks parking lot, and there was.

We needed just a splash of fuel to get us back to the rental car return. We purchased the fuel option so we want to bring it back as empty as possible.

Next we set the GPS for Greeley, Colorado. Jack will be back in Greeley in another week for a Jim Ryun cross country running camp. We drove around the University of Northern Colorado campus where the camp is hosted and Jack will be staying.

As we continued south on 85 towards Denver we passed lots of argriculture. Corn, pinto beans, hay, beets, dairy cows and beef cattle. There were also lots of oil pumps among the fields. It seemed four out of five restaurants along this road are Mexican, and the fifth is Chinese . We did not stop to eat.

Closer to Denver now and we are on the toll road towards the airport. Fuel gauge is getting low. We talk about all that we have seen and done, and what was our favorites. Everyone loved Jackson and the Grand Tetons. Many were amazed at Medora. And Grace thought the Lady Antebellum concert in her new cowboy boots and hat was the best.

About two miles from the rental car return the low fuel light comes on. Perfect! We return the trusty white van with an additional 2,330 miles. We unloaded our luggage and made sure we had everything out of the van. To the airport on the shuttle and home we go.

We both checked in for our flights, snapped a couple pictures and headed for our respective departure gates.

One van, two families, six states, eight people, ten days, 2,330 miles.

Thanks for following along. Till next time - Happy Trails.
