Flying to Louisina

Charlotte, North Carolina, United States
Today is a travel day as we fly from Charlotte to New Orleans via a connection in Atlanta.

We got up and headed down the road towards Charlotte airport and made a stop in Gaffney South Carolina for breakfast at Starbucks . A quick drive through downtown Gaffney and we were back on the interstate.

The road is crowded with semi trucks. Factories are all along the highway. Frieghtliner/Peterbuilt chassis for school buses and motorhomes. Firestone tires, Ryder trucks, Daimler trucks and many, many more. The road is rolling hills and gentle curves. The trees here are already filled with leaves and the grass is green and already mowed. Spring has arrived.

Arrival at the airport in Charlotte is easy. Rental car return is at the terminal, baggage check is quick, and TSA is minimally invasive. We grab a lite lunch before our flight for Atlanta. In Atlanta the airport is busy as always. Lots of people coming and going. Great for people watching.

Our flight to New Orleans is pretty quick and comfortable as we are on a newer 757 with personal entertainment at every seat.

On the ground in New Orleans we can feel the warmer weather . Mid seventies feels great. We fetch our bags and pickup another Chevy Impala, this one is black, the last one was silver. About twenty minutes later we are at our hotel and trying to figure out what to eat for dinner.

We pick a spot and set out on foot. Our first choice looked much better on Yelp so we keep walking and settle on Mexican food. Not your typical New Orleans cuisine, but it worked for us. Next we walked out to the riverfront to see the mighty, muddy Mississippi River. We walked towards the French quarter and found ourselves at Cafe du Monde - funny how that happened. The coffee and beignets were delicious, even better than I remembered.

We walked around Jackson Square and saw the street performers, artists and of course the fortune tellers. We decided to take a carriage ride through the French Quarter to give the kids a safe, quick tour. It was going fine until a topples lady walked down the street right next to our carriage. Oh well, that is Bourbon street! There were plenty of street musicians, some good, most not. Lots of parties cruising the bars and spilling into the street. It is early and we have no intent to hang around for things to get even crazier.

After our carriage ride we walked back to our hotel stopping in a couple shops along the way. Museums and more sites to see tomorrow.

At this point all four of us have visited 49 states. Only Alaska is left.
