It rained pretty hard last night and is still raining this morning. We decide to skip hiking in the rain and pack up for our flight home tonight. We will head towards Anchorage and do some more sight seeing there.
The Aleyaska has been a disappointment especially when it comes to food
. Not dissing Denny's but the resort dining is a just half notch above Denny's. Good thing is no one is starving.
We load the luggage set off for Anchorage. As we go the weather begins to clear (a bit). We see a rainbow over the Turnagain arm and check out a could of view points. Once in Anchorage we found a Starbucks for a pit stop.
We have noticed that Blockbuster video/DVD is alive and well in Alaska. A lack of high speed internet means no Netflix. Just an interesting observation.
We headed to Kincaid Park and Earthquake Park to see a bit more of anchorage. Kincaid Park is a 1,500 acre park in Anchorage that has rolling hills, views of the inlet, walking, running, and biking trails, ball fields, cross country skiing in winter and more. Earthquake park represents the effect and damage caused by the 1964 9.2 magnitude earthquake.
Time for lunch so we headed to a Mediterranean restaurant downtown
. Unfortunately the were serving brunch, which was more American than Mediterranean. Even so the food was good and kept from starving.
Jack needs a new pair of shoes so we visited Nordstrom where he got a new pair of Converse sneakers.
We browsed several shops and galleries in downtown Anchorage. There are lots of Alaska gift shops that get flooded when the cruise ship buses arrive. We tour through the lobby of the Captain Cook hotel, it looks to be the nicest hotel downtown. We rested awhile in the lobby and watched some of the Olympics.
We browsed around some more visiting several outfitter shops that sold nice clothing and gear for almost any Alaskan adventure.
It is almost 6 so we head to Sacks for dinner. It was fantastic; service and food both. It is always nice to end a trip with a good meal experience.
As we head towards our car we stop at a few more shops and galleries
. So nice art but nothing that comes home with us.
We head to the airport, return the rental car, check our bags and clear through security. We check into the Alaska Board Room Lounge as we have about 3 hours before our flight boards.
Well there it is. All 50 States. At several meals during this trip we have reminisced about our previous trips and adventures. We talked about the wackiest place, worst meal, best hotel, most surprising experience, and so on. The interesting thing is we all agree that Alaska is amazing. We saved the best for last and can't wait till we can return. Alaska has unending beauty in its vast wilderness.
Till the next adventure.
