Our last day in 2014 begins early. We are up and in the pool by 7am. Nothing planned for today other than rest by the pool and try to decide what we are doing for New Years Eve dinner and party.
A couple of options we are considering, the Sheraton and maybe even going into Sengiggi
. There is always the option of staying put at the hotel and join the celebrations here but this will be the last resort.
We spent the morning by the pool reading our books and decide to inspect the Sheraton to see if it is worth making a booking for tonight. We take a taxi for a 5 minute ride and arrive at the Sheraton Hotel. Nothing special..very much a resort typical of 1980's asian resorts. Not our demographic we decide and not a place for us tonight. It is now 1pm so we stopped at the Lotus restaurant for a quick bite. A couple of cheese burgers do the trick ...not too bad.
We decide that Sheraton and Sengiggi will not be the place for us, so we make our way back to our resort and make dinner reservations. Tonight they are planning a special dinner /show...we already know it is going to be rather lame, but no many options!
Dinner starts at 7pm. We have a couple of cocktails before hand
. Nice way to start. Traditional dancing show starts and dinner is served....not bad food at all!. Place is not looking too busy and a number of empty tables clearly indicate the place is not going to be pumping. And then the "entertainment" starts...3 dudes (one looking like an Indonesian Rocker..long bleached hair and a "look at me I'm a star" attitude) 2 on guitar and one singer. An acoustic band we are told because hotel management does not wish to make too much noise tonight and disturb guest who wish to rest.
Well....band starts with and acoustic John Denver number and several more romantic tunes!. Not the type of uplifting music we were expecting. Unfortunately it goes from bad to worst and it gets to a point of becoming unberable. So we had to escape and made a rapid exist in search for entertainment more suited to the occassion.
Next door at the neighboring resort they are having a big night with loud techno music and a "pirate" theme
. Lights, DJs, waiting staff all dressed as pirates...however not many guests. The place is almost empty at 11pm!!. Unfortunately a case of all dressed up and no one came to visit!!!
So we returned to our hotel to suffer more of the uplifting band...these dudes have not improved!. So we wait for 12 o'clock with glass of champagne in hand...fire works go off and the party starts....hotel staff and guest mingle and make lots of noise to welcome the new year . Fireworks a plenty. Probably the best (only) sign that this is a New Years party!
Oh well...this will go down as one of our worst effort to greet the new year....we will have to do more/better planning for next year...
Happy New Year. We have great expectations for 2015 !
Goodby 2014!
