Like Split but Love Milna

Split, Croatia
For whatever reason, when I tried to plot Milna on the map, the little maker kept going to the ocean right around the equator, so I gave up and plotted Split instead. Don't get me wrong, I like Split; it's just not where I live and not where we were going. Milna was our destination. Milna is on the island Brac right off the coast of Split, so why in the world the map wanted to put it at the equator is beyond me. But anyway, check it out by clicking on one of the links above. It's a really cool little place. Also, you might want to take a look at the Milna webcam It's located high up on a hill over the ACI Marina pointed back over the marina toward town.

So, anyway, we left Zagreb somewhere around 13:00 and arrived in Split at 21:30 only to find that the next ferry across to Brac was not until midnight. So, we bought our tickets and settled in to wait. The ferry takes about an hour, which meant that we would not get to Brac until 1:00. And, of course, it does not land in Milna; it lands in Supetar about 18km from Milna. Getting to Supetar so late was a problem since the last bus ran at 15:00, and taxis are expensive, not to mention that the taxi drivers aren't usually hanging around at 1:00 in the morning. Bill wasn't concerned. He figured if we couldn't get a taxi, we could just...are you ready for this?...sleep in the park! In the cold. Out in the open. Like a couple of bums. I, on the other hand, was quite concerned about what was going to happen once we landed. I wasn't feeling the whole park thing.

As predicted, there were two taxis but no drivers at the dock. The taxis had phone numbers on them, but of course, we had no phone. Thank goodness there was a kind man who volunteered to call the numbers for us and then continued to call for 30 minutes until he got somebody to answer. (I did mention that Croatian people are extremely helpful, didn't I?) I could have kissed him because it had been looking like the park was going to have to be our accommodation for the night, and I was almost in despair. Bill, on the other hand, was disappointed that the taxi driver had agreed to come. He really wanted to sleep in the park.

The taxi driver showed up in about 10 minutes, loaded all our stuff into the van, and drove us to Milna. He dropped us off right in front of the stairs going up to our place, unloaded all the luggage, said good night, and took off. By this time, it was somewhere around 2:30, and we were exhausted, but we were home!
