Milna - Home Again, Home Again, Jiggity Jig

Split, Croatia
We left Zagreb at 23:00. Since the trip to Split was overnight, and we were in a sleeper car, there is not much to say about the trip. We slept and slept well.

The train arrived in Split at 8:00 as scheduled, and we immediately walked over to the Jadrolinja ferry ticket office to secure our tickets on the 9:00 boat.

Let me digress a moment. Since we live on an island, it is important to coordinate our arrival time in Split with the ferry schedule to Brac (the island) and the bus schedule to Milna (our village). We have messed this up numerous times and have ended up waiting most of the night at the ferry terminal in Split for the first morning ferry at 5:00 or landing on Brac after the last bus has run to our village and paying a taxi driver an exorbitant amount to drive us to the other side of the island.

This time we had done it right and took the 9:00 ferry to Brac, landing in Supetar at 10:00. We then moved quickly to the bus station and bought tickets on the 10:15 bus to Milna. We weren't sleepy-tired because we had both had a good night's sleep on the train, but we were travel-tired and ready to get home. Our plan was to get off the bus and go straight home to unpack and regroup from our three week trip.

The thing about living in a small village is that you can't just blend in and become invisible even in the tourist season. People know who you are and notice what you are doing. That is why we ended up not getting past the Fjaka Cafe' Bar to our home. Our friends, Zoran and Dunja, saw us as we were walking by and nothing would do but we stop and have a drink. As we were sitting there talking and catching up after our three week Milna hiatus, two more friends, Rakela and Ivana, joined us. It turned into a regular morning party!

Just so you know, fjaka isn't just a funny name for the cafe'. Fjaka actually means something here in Croatia. Fjaka = a state of mind and body when you just don't feel like doing anything.

We got home after an hour of socializing, unpacked, and were pretty much in a state of fjaka for the rest of the next three days. The trip had been great, but it was good to be home.
