Fog, Sun and Construction

Thunder bay, Canada
When I woke this morning it was so foggy it was impossible to ride anywhere safely. So off to the local restaurant to have a great breakfast where I heard that about 30 Km or so up the road the fog would clear, so I found a big transport truck, tucked in behind him and lo and behold, in 30 Km the sun came shining through.
There were a lot of bicycles on the road today . They are so amazing to watch. I figure that they ride in one day what I ride in one hour. It takes a special talent to keep plodding along on a bicycle.
There were many signs warning of moose in the area, but did not see one single moose.
I passed through many more small towns including White River the home of Winnie the Pooh, and passed the Yellow Brick Road leading to the David Bell Gold Mine.
The road, as can be seen in some of the attached photos is a work of art. It winds around and up and down.
There are falls, such as the Aquasaban River Gorge, a railwway town called Schrieber with its own model train.
There was a fair amount of construction, but no real delays, and only one section that was gravel and it was only a couple of Km long and very hard packed.
There is even a store and gas station with all its walls painted to look like paintings of attractions in the area.
Just before Thunder Bay is the Ouimet Canyon that is remarkable. It is over 1000 metres deep and some of the plants growing at the bottom are Arctic plants that are seen in places 1000 Km North of here .
On the outskirts of Thunder Bay is the Terry Fox monument. I never pass this location without dropping in the see him. He is truly my hero !! He ran 143 marathons in 143 days using one good leg. He is a one of a kind. A fine old gentleman on a bike with his wife kindly took my picture. He was very excited as it was his first digital picture. He is a man behind the times as he lives south of Thunder Bay and is with no electricity.
Once I got to Thunder Bay I went to the Running Room store to pick up my hat for the annual 20 minute workout reward. Each year the Running Room gives away a hat to all who signup and do a 20 minute seesion of exercise. I had previously signed up on line for the Thunder Bay store, told them I did the 20 minutes walking up and down the trail from the parking lot to the Ouimet Canyon and back. They agreed and now I have the 2008 version of hat, a green model.
I am now camping at Kakabeka Falls at the Happyland RV Park Camping and was given a CAA discount.
Dinner was sweet and sour pork with Rice. Very tasty freeze dried product and all it needs is 9 minutes and 1 1/2 cups of boiling water !!
Distance Travelled: 552 Km

Following you step by step...
Till the end of July, I will definitely be logging in every day to read how you are doing and to 'polish' my eyes with your pictures! Then my 3-week holidays so I will then have to make up for the lost time at the end of August.
Lovely places John, excellent mood as usual (yours), ever growing envy (mine). I wish you excellent weather for all the days to come.
Love
Miriam
