Today was an early start as I continued West on Highway 18 and eventually joined 43 which runs straight into Dawson Creek.
It was great following the backroads today as I came across a feedlot where Alberta beef comes from
. There was an interesting sign on the barn. It said ""Beef, real food for real people"" I suggest it is a very biased opinion.
I also came across a cowboy roping competition at the TeePee Crossing fairgrounds. Check the logo on the announcer's booth. It looked like a group of men, and a few women, mostly in their forty's or fifty's enjoying a day of exercise and bonding between themselves as well as with their horses. There was prize mony, but no one seemed overly concerned about who won what. Everyone was very complimentary of each other when things went well, and it seemed to be "no big deal" if the exercise went bad.
I came close to running out of gas today. I need to be more wary of when the tank gets below half full, especially in the days ahead as I get further and further from civilization.
There were many trucks on the road today loaded with cut logs. They don't waste any time. I had a hard time catching one to photograph.
One of the last things I saw in Alberta was this massive dumpster that was being transported somewhere. I makes me realize how big things can be made...
I finally reached the British Columbia border and rode into Dawson Creek and am camping at the Mile 0 RV Park. The weather today has been great, but as I am writing this in my tent at 7:40 pm it has started to drizzle. It seems to rain almost every day, particularly at night.
Before I leave Dawson Creek tomorrow morning I will get the compulsory photos at mile zero, the tourist photo, and the official photo. I will attach them later.
