Morning: North to North West Territories

Fort liard, Canada
Today I continued West on the Alaska Highway and after 21 Km of leaving Fort Nelson I had my first sighting of snow covered mountains off in the distance. Beautiful
I then turned North on Highway 77 towards Fort Liard . This is a "chip seal" highway like the Alaska Highway and was in good shape for the first 100 Km, then there were pot holes to be avoided, then at the North West Territories border the road became gravel into Fort Liard.
While taking a picture at the "Welcome to the North West Territories" sign, a large tank truck going South stopped to see if I was OK. Great support if you need it.
In Fort Liard I topped up with gas, and the gentleman running the store wouldn't let me pay for my tea. Love Northern hospitality.
I then rode back South along the same highway to rejoin the Alaska Highway
A lot of the Alaska Highway is called a "chip seal "surface. It is made by having a flat base, then adding liquid tar and covering with a stone/gravel/dust mixture, rolling it together, then letting the traffic finish off the compacting. It is during this period the the loose gravel gets thrown around and caused windshield damage, etc.

Hi John, nice to hear from you!
I was waiting for your message (two-day silence is too much for your blog supporters!)
I remember my own travelling on Alaska highway (four guys and myself) in a camper in... 1995! I would do it again straight now!
Love
Miriam

Wow, we had a tough time on these roads in a car! Hard to imagine it on a
motorcycle!
