Dawson City, Canada
We were up early today as my wife flew in from Ottawa via Whitehorse. There is a unique arrangement in Whitehorse; the Air Canada plane from Vancouver arrives a few minutes AFTER the plane for Dawson City leaves, so it is necessary to spend the night in Whitehorse. So at 8:15 this morning we all met Helen at the airport and then we all got to work gardening and installing door and baseboard trim throughout the house.
In the late afternoon I rode into Dawson and picked up my replacement Visa card, did some grocery shopping, mailed a letter, and bought some paint brushes, edging tape, and more caulking .
I've attached a few more pictures of some other buildings in town as well as a picture of the ferry that crosses the Yukon River. There was a lot of action along the river bank as the ferry was in motion, canoeing tours arrived, and the paddle wheeler was at the dock.
I then rode up the Dome Road and came across a bear that was walking up the hill. As I approached him he slowly walked to the side of the road, and then after I passed he came back on the road and followed me as I went very slowly. Between fumbling for my camera and trying to change gears and use the clutch and brake he got to be pretty close, so I got out of there.
The reason for going up the dome was to visit a Cache I placed there a few years ago. For those into geocaching, the purpose is to find a hidden package of information based on a GPS location. The cache I created was for a friend of mine called Gary. The cache is a PVC pipe with a twist off lid, and is attached to a tree near the top of the DOME. It's exact location is: N 64° 04 .086 W 139° 23.802 The words below are those found on a sheet within the cache.

"""This GeoCache is in honour of Gary Ptolemy

Gary was very well known in the Ottawa area as a member of the Gold Wing Road Riders Association, an organization dedicated to the pleasure of riding a Honda GoldWing motorcycle. Gary was also an active motorcycle riding instructor who spent many hours helping introduce people to the pleasures of riding a motorcycle and assisted experienced motorcycle owners to become better and safer riders. Gary unfortunately was killed in a motorcycle accident in 2004.

This Cache is dedicated to Gary and is in recognition of his desire to visit the Yukon in one of his future rides. This cache represents Gary once again seeing the world from his motorcycle from this view point

We ask that all persons who find this cache send an Email to his wife, Alice Anne Ptolemy at the following address
"aaptolemy@hotmail.com"
indicating that you have visited this Cache.

Please feel free to sign and date the log book and leave a message """

I then returned to Sara's, did a well deserved oil change on the bike and cleaned and lubricated the chain.
I great dinner of pasta and a reasonable time to bed.

Bear...
Maybe the bear just wanted to shake... paws and say hello to you! Anyhow, you're lucky to meet all these beautiful creatures as you go round! Glad to hear that Helen joined you: you've got you wife, your daughter and your bike with you now and many more weeks of holidays ahead: you are a happy man, aren't you?? A friendly little thought of mine to Gary, although I never met him... The cache is an excellent idea indeed!
