On The Road Again (Morning)

Eagle, Alaska, United States
Today was a late start, at 10:00 am, but I think I was a bit tired after Swiss Day celebrations and the Sourtoe Cocktail.
I road into Dawson City and then rode over on the first ferry that came to our side of the river . This leads to the Top of The World Highway, one of the most beautiful roads I have ever travelled on. I took a quick look ate Dawson City from the west side of the river and have attached it.
The Top of the World Highway was built in such a away that it is usually at the highest point on each mountain, so the views in all directions are breathtaking. This road is partial pavement, and partial gravel of varying qualities. It leads to the US border at Poker Creek, the most northerly land border crossing in the USA. The green building is shared by the US and Canadian customs people. This is such a smart idea.
Just after the US border is a one person town called Boundary, but no one was home. There is a small airfield there to assure that the mail is delivered once a week all year round.
I continued west for a ways then rode over 50 miles into Eagle which at the end of a very long gravel road, but the beauty was excellent. There were places where the road was one lane wide and clinging to the side of the mountains. I stopped at a rest stop and found someone had a great sense of humour when building the outhouse. Check the foot pattern in the cement floor.

Ahhhh! John
Chicken, Alaska. The closest thing this world has to an a..hole. We were transiting thru there in 1991, and wanted something to eat. All they had was moose burger, which they fried up and served us on buns. Twenty minutes later our party of twelve were on the side of the road expelling lunch thru all openings, and remained ill for several days. The residents of Chicken resembled the extras from the old movie Deliverance.
The staff at the border crossing you mentioned, one each Canuck and You-all, invited us in for tea. How many times has that happened to you as you crossed the border?
By coincidence, my daughter Kathleen was in Dawson at the same time you were. I arranged a summer job there for her when she was in university, and she has wanted to return ever since.
We are at present in Custer, South Dakota, in the beautiful Black Hills. A couple of days here, and we will head noth to Saskatchewan.
I am really enjoying your blog, especially as I have covered many of the same roads.
Ride safe, John
