Cold Rain

Stewart, Canada
When I woke up this morning it was drizzling. Does this sound familiar?
Last night I had a bit of a technology breakdown as my GPS unit locked up and nothing I could do would bring it back to life. So this morning I asked the owner of this motel if he had a set of small hex keys and I was able to remove the battery which did a complete reset, and all appears to be working well. That is such a relief as I have all the routes I intend to follow and places of interest in the GPS unit.
I rode east on the Alaska Highway for a couple of hours then turned south on the Cassiar Highway which is a terrific highway. It reminds me of how the Alaska Highway used to be before straightening and widening occurred
Just as I turned south onto the Cassiar a rider on a BMW tucked in behind me and followed for over an hour. When I stopped for gas we introduced ourselves. His name is Ben from North Dakota and is on his way home after riding to Prudhoe Bay. We had lunch together, then continued south and the rain turned on full blast. It was painful, almost like ice pieces, and the clouds came down real low.
We made it to Meziadin Corner where we decided to head for the closest town called Stewart British Columbia located at the end of the road. By the time we had completed the last 60 Km we were almost comatose as we were both wet through our jackets, boots and gloves.
One beautiful place we passed is the Bear Glacier which I will photograph later as I need to return on this same highway to get out of Stewart. As we passed the glacier one BIG black bear came out of nowhere and ran in front of me. I slammed on the brakes and just missed him and I'm sure I heard him snarl at me as I flashed by. That was close !!
So we are now in the Kind Edward Hotel, the room heat turned up and the place looks like a Chinese laundry with clothes everywhere.
Distance Travelled: 745 Km
