Visit with Joann Eagle Sale

Dahlonega, Georgia, United States
After a nice visit with Bill and Beverly and then praying for them as Bill left for work, Glenn and I left in the RAV 4 to head towards White Stone which is near Knoxville, TN.

I had wanted to visit with Joanne (Eagle) and Oliver Sale . I had never heard back from Joanne from our first contact back in May, so as we drove along the winding roads, we called up Joanne and talked with her. She mentioned that she replied to my email - I never got it. I suspect that she "replied in the form of a text message", and since we didn't have texting, I never got it.

But any how, we connected and she said "come on". Although, her husband Oliver would not be there. He golfs on Tuesday.

We arrived at just past 9:30am and sat and talked in their breakfast nook. We went down the line - I told her where everybody was, Rick, Ronnie and Sherrie. What they were doing and how many kids and g'kids they have. Then she told me about her family. Her Blended family now with her new husband (they've been married for 17 years now). Dianna and her husband have worked with Family Life over the years and have recently retired. They didn't necessarily work with Lillian Sewell Jones, but they were in the same organization . Another kid lives in Houston Texas, and one lives in the Northwest, Seattle area.

We also talked about John dying. He was only 50 years old when he died. She was a widow for 9 years, before marrying Oliver. Oliver's wife died previously too. Anyway, we had a great conversation. We thanked her for the support through the years. As we were walking out the door, she asked "Anything I can give you?"  I immediately said "a loaf of bread". We needed bread for our picnic lunch later in the day.

I wanted to do a letterbox in Georgia, so I found one on the campus of University of North Georgia. The clues were great. Hidden in the hole of a tree that the canon was pointing to. Before doing the letterbox, we walked a few blocks around the town square. Here there was an information office. We walked by a candy store and Glenn bought me a candied apple and a piece of chocolate fudge. The town of Dahlonga, GA was a cute little town. Touristy town . Cute little town. I'm glad we could stop on our way to Kingston, TN

We stopped at Hillcrest Orchards to buy some apples, and to see if we could use the picnic table. I used the bathroom. We made peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. As we drove from Dahlonga towards Kingston, we decided to drive the more scenic route through Cherokee National Forest where the beginning of the Appalachian Trail begins.

The route was S-L-O-W! but beautiful. We stopped at a Walmart in Blue Ridge, GA to get some "junk food" for our stay in WhiteStone.

We finally arrived in WhiteStone around 4:30ish. We had until 6:30pm to unpack, relax and unwind.

Our stay at Whitestone Inn is Absolutely FREE For foreign missionaries which includes breakfast each morning. Missionaries can stay here twice a year. We have stayed here 2 other times in our travels. We do pay 20.00 for cleaning/administration fee and if we decided to eat the evening meal, and we paid for that. Since we had never eaten a meal here, we elected to enjoy a nice sit down dinner meal. I ordered fish and Glenn had roasted chicken. The dessert was pretty good too.

We are staying here for 2 nights.
