Nagasaki

SeaTac, Washington, United States
This is a beautiful city, bustling with ship building and other major maritime industries. We saw a new Carnival cruise ship being built. It will be huge, 5,000-6,000 passengers. The city is ringed by mountains and doesn't have a great deal of flat land.

We spent the morning at the Atomic Bomb museum where an 86 year-old survivor shared his experiences during and after the bombing of Nagasaki . This was very heavy and we all appreciated his sharing something so personal. He has been commissioned a special correspondent to travel the world discussing nuclear war and urging governments to destroy the 15,000+ nuclear warheads in existence. We know where each one is. LET'S DO SOMETHING ABOUT THEM BEFORE SOMEONE DECIDES TO TEST OUR NEW GOVERNMENT.

The Peace Memorial Park is beautiful and a testimony to the resilience of the Japanese people and the contributions of world governments to share in the peace initiatives.

A visit to Glover Gardens, gave us wonderful photo ops of the harbor. You ride a flat (no steps) escalator to the very top of a hill. You walk back down through the gardens after touring a centuries-old home of an expatriate Scots businessman.

We all fell in love with Japan and would love to return. I'm so glad I had this chance to visit.

We are now on our way to Korea. Have to find some more room on my IPad for pics. Need more wifi.
