Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

SeaTac, Washington, United States
Our third shore excursion in 3 days. Weather is in high 90's with humidity high. Not uncomfortable though as we are on and off the air-conditioned coach.

I have to admit I knew nothing about Malaysia (or most of our other stops) before this trip . What an education. I'll never watch or read the news in quite the same way again. We don't really understand how intertwined we are with the entire world. Want me to tell you what our foreign guides and guests are worried about?

We visited the National Mosque (Masjid Negara) which is the most distinguished mosque in Kuala Lumpur. We all, men and women, had to cover ourselves from top to bottom. They provided robes and head coverings if we didn't have one. I had my own. It was quite an experience even if we couldn't go in the main prayer hall.

We visited the War Memorial (Tugu Negara) where they honor those who perish in war. It bears a close resemblance to our Iwo Jima memorial because it was designed and sculpted by the same artist. A beautiful memorial.

The King's Palace, the Cricket Club, and the old Railway station were stops. The Thean Hou Temple is the home to patron Goddess, Thean Hou of the Hainanese community. Got our fortune read.

A trip up to the top of the KL Tower and a stop to photograph the Petronas Towers completed our afternoon. Oh, I forgot to mention the buffet lunch at the Intercontinental Hotel that left us all too full of wonderful food to even think about dinner later.

That's it for now. On our way to Colombo, Sri Lanka.
