Crete was another substitution for a scheduled stop in Turkey. Great Plan B. I wish I could remember the details of Aullies mom's time working archeological digs in Crete when Traci was born. I did feel her presence a time or two.

The Minoan at Knossos was inhabited from the Neolithic period until the 5th century AD . The palace was the seat of King Minos. It is connected with thrilling legends, such as the myth of the Labyrinth, with the Minotour, and the story of Daidalos and Ikaros.

Our guide was terrific, tying the history and mythology together. Thank goodness for the Greeks' commitment to preservation. The frescos are beautiful and still vivid after so many centuries. Lots of art was buried so preserved. The wood in the buildings decomposed but they are restoring by using concrete where there was wood and painting it to look like wood.

After another wonderful Greek lunch we visited the Cathedral of St. Mina's and the beautiful Heraklion Archeological Museum. I've tried to add pertinent descriptions to the photos.

I wish you hadn't mentioned Greek food...now I can't get it out of my mind! I think Plan B looks like an excellent choice.
