Our first venture was to drive around the city. So much to see, so little time, even with 2 full days. Our main focus was on Antoni Gaudi's La Sagrada Familia,

Considered one of the great geniuses of universal architecture, he understood architecture as a total art . Fascinated by nature and geometry, he created surreal spectacles. He was so far ahead of his time that his works are still being studied and applauded for his prescience. Capturing rain water, natural air conditioning through strategic window placement, self-supporting catenary arches, etc. are some of his innovations. Plus, he was a bit eccentric. Too much info for this blog.

You'll have to google La Sagrada Familia to get the full picture, no pun intended, because it is such an unusual story that I can't do it justice. PS. I just found 2 postcards that show aerial views.

The Guelll Park and Casa Mila are also special in different ways. It's easy to see why his magic and whimsy are immortalized in this city of contrasts.

We had lunch in the famous market La Boqueria. I grabbed a container of fresh fruit and explored. It is so extensive that I had to keep making right turns to keep from getting lost. When I spied the model imitating Marilyn Monroes's famous air grate move in the window of the Errotica Museum I knew I was back at square one.
