Meeting Pablo Escobar´s Brother

Medellin, Colombia
We arrived in Medellin after a 13 hour bus trip which was cold and really really hard to go to the toilet when we are on a really windy road. Medellin was once very dangerous but these days the town is full of tourists. Junior left his sleeping bag in the taxi which was handy as our bags were getting pretty heavy.

We visited the outside museum of Bortelo and there are 23 scuptures around downtown. We then visited the Sceince Museum which was for sure a different experiance. To start with the guide only spoke Spanish so we got these English headphones which were very uninformative about any of the displays. There was a lot to see there and some very different rides that we did that I cant even explain. I guess you are all going to have to visit Medellin and see for yourselves.

We did the Pablo Escobar tour which was very interesting. First we got picked up by his ex bodyguard and then viewed his old house (the first house in colombia with cable tv, elevators and video cameras!) which looked more like run down apartment block now. The goverenment owns this now. After we went to his grave which is also where his mother, father, sister, and other bodyguard were also buried. We then drove to the house where he killed himself/got shot (depending on which stories you listen to) this was just a small 2 story unit which is now just occupied by general public. After that we visited with Roberto (Pablos“s brother) who has an amazing house on top of a hill in the centre of Medellin. Roberto used to be famous before Pablo as he was a world champion in long distance cycling. Roberto handed himself in to the police and when he was in jail he receivied a letter bomb which exploded in his face and is now kinda deaf and blind. He was then put under house arrest for a few years. We saw some old furniture that used to be in Pablos house and then a secret hidden room that was behind a bookcase, pretty cool. He also still has a massive F250 with bullet proof tyres, smoke and oil decoys and road spikes. It weighs about 4 tonne. Also on display was the car that Pablo was first arrested in as the spare type was full of cocaine. That was when he was 26. We got heaps of photos with Roberto and he was happy to answer any questions at all. The driver was so nice and a very happy guy he was also happy to answer any questions.

After the excitement of meeting Pablos brother we decided to celebrate with a few people from the hostel. We ended up going to a brewery for a tour which didn't leave the bar then on to a nightclub called Babylon which was classic. Less than ten dollars entry for all and anything you can drink. Needless to say we took full advantage of this getting bottles of spirits brought straight to the table!
