We got to Auckland airport early and check in took ages, they even tried to say that I needed a visa for Chile. It was getting very close to boarding time so we just had to talk ourselves out of it and it worked. We finally got to the gate with about 15 mins to spare. The plane was full and there was heaps of screaming kids. There was one baby just behind us that screamed pretty much the whole way. I thought and kind of hoped it would pass out so I could get some sleep! I had already seen most of the movies so it was quite a boring trip for me. Junior slept pretty well but then he usually does.
We landed in Chile about 10
.5 hours later and got a taxi straight to La Casa Roja where we stayed last time. We probably got a bit ripped off but we were tired and just wanted to get there. We had a quick siesta before heading out the back and having a few beers with some of the guys that were in the hostel last time. We went out that night for a celebration dinner at a local steak restaurant which was great fun. A bit of a struggle trying to remember spanish but it was slowly coming back. After we went back to hostel and found ourselves at 3am in the back bar. Caught up on sleep the next day (thank god for a private room) and chilled by the pool as we knew we didn't have any sight seeing to do.
Meet Christian from Sydney at the hostel and we all went out to dinner in the Bella Vista area which is full of bars and restaurants. Had a wicked dinner and then went out to Bar Constituion which is one of the best bars/night clubs in Santiago. At midnight they still had the dance floor set up for dinner. At about 1 they cleared it and then the Dj's turned up the music
. They had two playing and an MC which was awesome. After a few Cuba libres (rum and coke with lime) and a lot of dancing we headed back to the hostel.
Once we were back at the hostel there was still people up so we stayed up and had a few drinks with them. It was starting to show signs of getting light when we finally made it to bed. We now understand the siesta because you don't go out for dinner til around 1030 then before you know it the sun is coming up.
In morning we both woke up to massive hang overs and the realisation we had to get a flight to Punta Arenas about 3 hours south. Up there with one of the worst flights I've taken. Punta Arenas is the most southern part of chile and very close to Antartica so as you could imagine it was freezing. This was just a quick stop over before we had to get a bus up to Puerto Natales.
