We had heard about this other little beach town called Cabo Polonio which is apparently quite chilled and doesn’t have power. We took the bus from PDE to Castillos which took about two and a half hours and then we had to get another bus to Cabo Polonio. Once we finally got there we found out that there was no accommodation there but you could sleep on the beach. Both of us were not that keen on that so we decided to move along and head to Punta del Diablo. We finally got to Punta del Diablo at 7.30pm as the one hour bus trip took 3 hours. We had no accommodation booked and we knew that this town was very popular. We got off the bus asked where the center of town was and started walking. About 100mts from the bus station we saw our first hostel sign and fingers crossed we walked to reception to find out that this hostel had just opened 2 days before. They didn’t have any rooms available but were kind enough to put us up in an unfinished dorm that they were using as a storage room for their tools. They said drop your bags here go into town and when you get back there will be beds. So we walked into town which was about half hour away so we were pretty happy that we didn’t have to walk that far with our packs looking for a bed. Also they were only charging $15 each so that was cheap as chips as we knew this town was expensive and we were willing to pay $50 each a night. This hostel ( El URU Hostel) turned out to be wicked. A German guy Jorge brought the block of land and got the basic building done by a local and then once nearly completed his son Fredrico and a friend Dennis came over to help and now they are running it. It is one of the best hostels we have stayed at. Even though they had just opened and they were still fine tuning a few problems we felt really welcome there and they helped us out heaps. On our last night there one of the guys who works there, Toto, prepared an awesome traditional dish while Vicky helped us with our Spanish. There's a lot of potential there and we can see in a couple of years it’ll be the best in the town as Fredrico has promised to put a pool in for next year (we may even come back and check so get digging!). We didn’t want to leave as we’d met some great people there but knew we had to get north into Brazil.
Side note about Punta del Diablo – Get all the money you intend to use out before you get there as the closest money machine is an hour away buy bus!
Awesome little town! X
