We stayed in Paraty for 3 nights at Che Lagarto Hostel which was one of the better Che Legato's that we have stayed at. The first night we had arranged to catch up with Wilma and Gan a couple from Holland on their 40^th wedding anniversary who we had met on Ilha do Mel. So we went looking for a restaurant and finally picked one that was right in the middle of the square which is always a mistake. Our meals were pretty average but quite expensive. It was good spot though as there was a pre-carnaval festival on with heaps of people around and lots going on. We had some cocktails after but then headed back to the hostel for a semi-early night. The next morning was the men’s final in the Australian Tennis Open so we watched it for hours. We then headed out for a look around town and ended up at the beach which was a bit dirty but there was a local beach football tournament on so we sat and had lunch and watch the last few games of that. It was hard case anyone who got the ball thought they were Ronaldinho and had a shot at goal no matter where they were, even the goalie! There were bicycle kicks every second shot. That arvo we did a spot of fishing in the river which was not much of a success even though we could see the locals pulling out fish with their home made bamboo fishing rods. Probably for the best as the water looked terrible. We had a dinner at the hostel which was pretty good and headed back to the festival that night with everyone from the hostel.
