Mal Pais was a 7 hour trip from San Jose. We had to take a bus, ferry and then bus again. We found the hostel that some of our other mates were staying at which was pretty handy cause it was pretty late at night. Now on the Pacific Coast we expected a bit more out of this town people had raved about it but there was not much to do and the surf was so big that it wasn't very pleasant going in the ocean. We spent 3 nights there which was a bit of a waste but I guess good to just chill for a few days. Borrowed a bike for a day and road along the main road checking out the sights not much to see though just a family of howler monkeys and that’s about it. The one good thing the town had was a bakery which had great coffee and fresh loaves of bread which we lived off.
