We arrived in Santa Clara early morning after a 12 hour night bus which was ugly. They stopped about 7 times along the way which meant lights on and people talking and babies crying. Lets just say we didn't sleep much at all. We watched one movie then Junior tried to sleep but I knew I would not sleep so I watched another movie that I had already seen twice in the last week. Once we checked into the hostel we had a power nap for an hour before getting out and seeing the town.
Santa Clara is the town where Che Guevara is buried and where he pretty much won the revolution. We walked around first looking at monuments and statues of Che - there were loads. We went to the train wreck museum which was where they had used a bull dozer to de-rial a train carrying Batista's troops to help him and took them captive and then to a mirador which had a nice view of the town. After we stopped in at the cigar factory were we did a tour and it was really interesting. It was like a sweat shop. All the cigars are hand made and you were not aloud to take photos. We asked why and she said because its a secret the way we make them, but we reckon it's to hide the sweat shop way of making them. But the workers are happy to have a job as the unemployment is very high in Cuba and the average wage is $16 USD a month.
The next morning we went to Che“s memorial grave and museum of his life which was really interesting. Junior loved it. After we caught a taxi back to Havana.
