We arrived still alittle hungover from the night before in Cancun. The bus was about 5 hours and the whole time we were thinking it was only going to take 3. We find a good hostel checked in then checked out the town. It had about 3 beautiful churches all lit up with lights which made great photos. Nice old colonial streets and little markets stalls all around.
We ended up at this market which had live local dancers and music which was good to see. I then ate some great local taco´s which were the best taco in Mexico so far. We wandered back to the hostel for an early night.
The hostel had given us a list of things to do around Merida. There are ruins, cenotes, caves, beaches and then we thought we had done alot of all the above recently so we opted for the Flamingo look out and town that had a meteorite hit it 65 million years ago which ended the dinosaurs. Well it took us 3 buses to get to the Mirador los Flamingos and ha ha no Flamingos just wet lands. Then we walked to the beach which was all private property, massive local Mexican holiday homes with boats and jet skies. We walked along for about half hour and thought to walk back to the road to hitch back to the town where the Meteorite struck.
We hitched with this young local rich guy which was sweet, realised that this town might be famous for this meteorite but there was nothing there to show it. So we caught a bus back to Pegroso and chilled at the beach for hours. It was an interesting beach with heaps of people watching. It was packed because it was the Mexican summer holidays. There were heaps of girls giving away free promotional stuff so we ended up with a local gas company sombrero.
We caught the bus back later that arvo to merida which was about 45 mins away. We thought it would be a great idea to go to Walmart grab some beers and some food to cook up for dinner. We finally got to Walmart after about 25 min walk grabbed what we needed got to the front counter to find out again that you cant buy beers after 5pm on a Sunday and it was 5.15pm. Then when we got home and cooked pasta with this kind of sausage that the sausages tasted like feet and we couldn't eat them. That was pretty much the last straw for me cooking in hostels now. You can eat out for nearly the same price, get what you want and have no hassle.
Last day just had breakfast and then caught bus to Campeche.
