a few hiccups on our way today. our flight with Emirates was slightly marred by the drinks being served after the meal and Kate'sTV packing up halfway through watching a film but worse was to come as our connecting flight was impossible to catch. Dubai airport terminal 2 is actually in Sharjah and involved a taxi drive so we had to buy a couple of extra tickets to catch the next flight. a few hundred dollars poorer and a flight on Dubai's version of Ryan air and we arrived to find our taxi driver still waiting for us albeit a bit panicky as he had a school run to do.
We are staying in Angharad's guest accommodation and after a few mins unpacking she arrived back from work . The trauma of our missed flight and missed texts soon forgotten as we had a cup of tea.
After a shower ,a short nap and a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc it was off in a taxi to Al Mourjan, an open air Lebanese restaurant on the Corniche by the sea. a lovely view of all skyscrapers all lit up at night formed our backdrop. afterwards we hired a dhow to take a trip round the bay but didn't see any dolphins!
All the while the Qatari's were celebrating their previous evening's football victory over Saudi Arabia by driving their cars up and down the corniche flags flying,hooting,standing on the roof of their moving vehicles and showering Qatari flag confetti. It made it difficult to find a taxi but a limousine pulled over and haggled for a lift home. an early night tonight.
