travelled up to see Sacha before we leave on our world trip. flew up last night and had time to visit "The Diggers" described by CAMRA 30 years ago as "Mecca" and now a 5 min away from his flat. the pub was full of rugger fans as Scotland had played the All Blacks earlier that evening who all rushed off as soon as the England occur match highlights came on.
During the day we strolled along the union canal up to the Water of Leith and to answer Sacha's question what happens if there is too much water in the canal we noticed the overflow sluice gates on the aqueduct over the river drenching the wooden walkway underneath making it extremely slippery . design error methinks.
On the way home we enjoyed some tea and cake in a narrowboat cafe before enjoying dinner in a Portuguese restaurant as our Christmas present from him. As it was a BYO he was able to provide some lovely wine from work for us.
