Black River, Black River, Mauritius
Thursday is the day of the big market in Quatres Bornes ,an old established town with still a few old colonial buildings, the police station and telephone exchange being good examples. sadly both are by a busy crossroads so difficult to stop and photograph. The market is just like the souks in Doha and Muscat although no one tried to sell us a pashmina. We all managed to get some cheap local clothing and no need to barter which made a refreshing change. We went with Jean, who wanted us to try the best dhollpuri on the island and we were not disappointed. A great experience,a long queue out into the road but we managed to find a table as they are impossible to eat on the move. On the way home through the backstreets we passed a pretty Hindu temple on the hillside. Although the day had been cloudy and and a bit showery we managed a BBQ on the terrace with a surprisingly good sunset. Later on we could see a terrific display of lightning far out at sea which backlit the Morne and other mountains to the south and the occasional firework!
