Alappuzha, Kerala, India
early morning we wake in time to watch the mussel fishermen scraping the river floor with giant rakes with a net attached.we watch the birds as they leave their nests and roosts.after breakfast we wend our way back to alleppey to disembark watching the locals do exactly the same as yesterday only this time the kids are going to school.A short drive to check out the beach as it starts to rain which is over by the time we check in at the guest house a few minutes later. We rest awhile ,tend to emails etc as the rice boat had no wifi until we decide to go in search of a beer. found a relatively smart bar overlooking the beach, had a couple of kingfisher beers and enjoyed some chana dhal and onion bhajis.as we returned to the hotel we heard the call to prayer which was being drowned out by a continuous rant from the communist office.goodness knows what the nuns thought in the catholic school that separates them! After a little siesta we returned to the beach to see the sunset and the local families enjoying the cool of the day on the beachfront and some were even having camel rides. For dinner we went to the posh hotel that owns our guest house and the bar we went to earlier.A rooftop terrace overlooking the sea to enjoy a fish curry and a cooling sea breeze as the temperature during the day is nudging the mid 30's.
