Fort, Fort, Sri Lanka
The best thing about this hotel, apart from the faded grandeur,is the view from the dining room. A great view of the harbour with all the boats and birds flying about and perfect as you sip your morning coffee. Unfortunately soon after breakfast the heavens opened with thunder and lightning so we were forced to stay indoors. We tried to sort out our hotel booking problem and the duty manager was rather embarrassed by the poor internet in the lobby as we tried to download our confirmation for him to pass on to the local travel company. We tried the business centre that was still using xp but that was too slow and finally into their main office where we able to leave them with a copy. We retired to the bar where the internet worked perfectly, typical!
Thankfully the rain had passed by so we took an afternoon stroll along the old colonial streets sadly in need of some TLC,buildings that were once the pride of the island awaiting a bit of love . Sebastian had his beard trimmed at a local barbers we had spotted when we first went for a walk and he even had a face massage whether he wanted one or not. By the waterfront a vast port complex halted by the new government that didn't have the right permission and planning that was starting to alter the beach upon which the locals have promenaded over the years,a fine place to watch the sunset. We had a cup of tea and when we stepped out the road was closed to traffic and crawling with police stopping pedestrians. Soon a big motorised cavalcade passed at great speed only to come to a sudden halt as they attempted to turn right into a posh hotel. It was the Indian prime minister of course and we noticed what we now realised were not fishing boats but naval high speed launches.
