Hong Kong day 1

Kowloon, Western Australia, Hong Kong
After a late arrival it was no surprise that we slept late and didn't set foot outside until lunchtime. As we are pretty central we decided to walk to the tram station to take us to the peak,it's almost the law that you have to go.Hong Kong is quite odd really, everything seems British but with an overdose of canary wharf and New York. You climb up some stairs and use an arial pavement system as you walk through office blocks and shopping malls avoiding the streets below. After a coffee and sandwich in Starbucks we wandered through Hong Kong park,a lovely zone of serenity with waterfalls, lakes, terrapins and birdsong to the tram terminus for the peak.We didn't have to wait long and it was almost a 1 in 1 incline through trees and high rise buildings affording snatches of views across to Kowloon and the distant 9 dragon hills which is more or less the border with china. Up on top of the viewing platform with the help of an audiotape you get a great explanation of the skyline and idea of the layout of the place.
We ate up there because of the view, worth the expense . Having heard about the longest outdoor escalator we decide we'd use it,so we tottered down a very steep path that was the original road up to the peak through lush tropical trees only to find the escalator changes direction in the late morning. So we ended up walking all the way down but answer passed through the mid levels and soho we had a snap shot of life here.It wasn't all bad because
Kate found M & S so a bit of retail therapy to sooth our weary legs
