Tp. Hội An, Quảng Nam, Vietnam
After dealing with the laundry and breakfast it was time for some more sightseeing in this charming little city. Our first stop was to see a traditional performance of music and dance in an old house, secondly we visited another Chinese assembly hall, then a trade ceramic museum and finally a 16th century merchants house that has been in the same family for 7 generations. It was then time for a welcome cold beer before a rice noodle making demonstration in which we made some before acting a very tasty bowl of noodles. The venue is a centre for training disadvantaged kids English and hospitality skills and they go on to work in their sister restaurant and other resorts.A very worthwhile enterprise.
Kate then has to go for her shirt fitting which was a success . To celebrate all our tour members retired to the hotel pool for a well earned swim. In the evening we went with our guide and kharlo (the survivors from the bangkok tour departure) to a local village by boat, walked through the alleyways, got ambushed by the local children and enjoyed a fabulous home cooked dinner. What was bizarre was the patriotic music and propaganda blaring out in the village which is absent in the touristy ares.An hour and a half in the morning and evening. The locals hearing it every day have just blanked it out.
