Saigon day 2

Ho Chi Minh City, Hồ Chí Minh, Vietnam
A early morning start to miss the crowds as we visit the Cu Chi tunnels, these were an underground network of tunnels from the Cambodian border into Vietnam in use during the war against the French and expanded during the Vietnam war to include a complete underground village. After seeing a mock up of various bunkers and booby traps we got to crawl through a small original stretch (it has been doubled in size to accommodate foreigners) and eat a piece of tapioca root, the staple diet of the inhabitants. Upon our return we had lunch in pho2000,the noodle bar frequented by Bill Clinton when he came in 2000. This is also next to the vast Ben than market where sadly the traders are quite aggressive so we went to Saigon square,a 100 yards away where it's air conditioned and not aggressive. We still didn't buy anything though!
To Finnish off the day we visited the war remnants museum for a very North Vietnamese take on the war but still very interesting none the less . We both enjoyed the war photographers exhibition as some of the shots are iconic images. In the evening we went back into the backpacker area for our farewell dinner as some on the tour leave here including us and afterwards a roof top beer in a bar.
